This past weekend, the Amherst women’s tennis team returned to Williams College to compete in the 2017 ITA Regional Championships. After a three-day long battle, the Mammoths finished with strong performances in both the singles and doubles matches. The team ended the tournament with an 8-6 record in singles play and 5-3 in doubles. Amherst traveled to the Regional Championship with seven of its varsity athletes Friday afternoon.

The Amherst women’s tennis team traveled to Williams’ Hunt Tennis Courts on Saturday, Sept. 23rd, to battle longstanding archrival and perennial NESCAC power. The Mammoths, coming off a successful start to the season last weekend, seemed prepared to challenge the defending league champions in its first dual meet of the season (and only dual meet of the fall). However, the team fell short to the Ephs, 7-2, in a match that was closer than a casual glance at the scoreline would indicate.

The Amherst women’s tennis team served up quite the 2017-2018 season debut this past weekend at the MIT Invitational, held at duPont Tennis Courts and J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble. After its abrupt and unanticipated elimination from the first round of the NESCAC tournament and the second round of the national tournament last year, the team will no doubt look forward to this season. With head coach Jackie Bagwell entering her 27th season this fall, the team entered the MIT Invitational with nine individuals for the singles match and four teams for doubles.
