Dynamic doubles duo Jordan Brewer ’14 and Gabby Devlin ’14 seem to have lost little momentum over the summer.
After capturing the Div. III National double’s title last spring (and going undefeated throughout the fall and spring), the tandem started their fall campaign with the Stony Brook Women’s Tennis Classic’s flight ‘A’ doubles championship.

In a Div. I tournament no less, Brewer and Devlin went 4-0 over the weekend to add another piece of hardware to their already-impressive trophy case.

Brewer and Devlin began their weekend against Army’s Eva Sung ’16 and Gabriella Spindler ’16, quickly falling behind 6-1 in the eight-game pro set. Unfazed, the Jeffs duo stormed back to win seven-straight games and pick up the win, 8-6. In the next round, the Jeffs beat Navy’s Emani Decquir ’13 and Sam Droop ’16, 8-5, to move into the semifinals.

There they cruised by Stony Brook’s Nina Laguilava ’13 and Polina Movchan ’15, 8-4 to book a spot in the finals against Army. In the finals, Brewer and Jordan battled to a 9-7 win over Erin Colton ’13 and Jamila Paul ’14 to take home the gold.

In the ‘E’ flight singles draw, first-year Maddy Sung also posted impressive results for the Jeffs. After topping Bryant’s Lyan Juarbe ’16, 8-3, Sung came from behind to beat Colgate’s Katie Grant ’16, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 10-0. Earning herself a spot in the semis, Sung fell to Army’s Kelly Daniel ’16, 6-2, 7-5.

Amherst returns to action on Sept. 28-30 at the ITA Championship.
