This past weekend, the men’s golf team traveled to the Ralph Myhre Golf Course in Middlebury, Vermont to compete in the NESCAC championship. As the tournament came to a close, the purple and white clinched the third-place position trailing behind Middlebury and Trinity.

After one day’s worth of play, the purple and white found themselves in the fourth-place position, finishing with a total team score of 316. James Line ’16, Jack Burlison ’19 and Sam Proctor ’18 each impressed by notching scores in the 70s range. The fourth-place finisher for the team, Dan Langa ’18, just missed this mark, ending with 81 strokes.

Amherst turned around their performance on day two and improved their team position to third. Despite the team’s score of 320 for the day and a score of 636 for the weekend, the purple and white were able to advance past Hamilton, as Hamilton’s golf team dropped from second to fourth.

Burlison shot his second 78 of the tournament to leave him tied for fifth out of the 20 total golfers. Liam Fine ’17 worked his way back into the lineup of contributing scorers with a second day score of 79. The line-up for the weekend ended up with Middlebury placing first, Trinity taking second, Amherst right behind in the third-place position, with Hamilton coming in fourth.

The purple and white finished the weekend strong. Burlison had a score of 156, Line scored 158, Proctor scored 162 and Langa scored 164 to round out Amherst’s tournament. The purple and white finished their 2016 NESCAC run in the respectable third-place position.

With the spring season coming to a close with the end of this tournament, the men’s golf team looks to continue to improve in preparation for the fall season.
