In their first meet of the 2018 season, the Amherst men’s track and field team stormed to an impressive start, finishing second to Williams at the Little Three Championships, an annual tri-meet between Amherst, Williams and this year’s host Wesleyan.
The Mammoths totaled 124 points in the meet to the 151 scored by the Ephs, far ahead of the 76 points earned by the Cardinals in third place.

On Saturday, the Amherst men’s cross country team continued its record-setting season, winning the NESCAC Championships for the first time in school history. The Mammoths had their best race of the season as they defeated runner-up Middlebury 35-66. Mo Hussein ’18 became a two-time NESCAC champion; his first-place time was six seconds faster than that of Conn. College’s Scott Mason.

The Mammoths entered the race as favorites after defeating Williams two weeks prior at the Little Three Championships for the first time in 29 years.

Since 1988, Williams had emerged victorious at the annual Little Three Championship, a tri-meet between Amherst, Williams and Wesleyan. The Mammoths made history on Saturday when they defeated the Ephs by a score of 25-36 to break their archrivals’ 29-year winning streak.

Williams hosted the meet on their home course at Mt. Greylock High School, but due to construction, the course was different from years past.

However, it was the same course the harriers traversed at the Purple Valley Invitational in September.
