The Amherst women’s track and field team traveled to Boston University for Valentine Invitational — their last regular season meet of the winter — last Friday afternoon, where they performed well amongst a talented pool of Division I, II and III schools, as well as independent and semi-professional runners.
In the sprint events, first-year Julia Asin finished in a team-high 140th place in the 200-meter dash, among 237 other women competitors, with a time of 26.83 seconds. Senior Victoria Hensley finished close behind, coming in at 27.43 seconds, placing her in 173rd place.
The Asin-Hensley duo also impressed in the 400-meter race: Hensley finished in a team-high 66th place in the 195-women race with a time of 58.89, followed by Asin in 93rd place at 59.64.
In the middle-distance events, sophomore Leonie Rauls finished the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.3, giving her 83rd place.
Keelin Moehl ’16 ran in the 1000-meter run, finishing at an impressive 42nd overall with a mark of 3:02.1. Kaeli Mathias ’18 finished with a time of 3:10.66, coming in second place for the purple and white and 51st overall.
In a stacked, 242-women pool, first-year Lela Walter took 163rd overall in the one-mile run with a time of 5:27.29. Fellow first-year Veronica Rocco finished 101st overall in the 3,000-meter run with a mark of 10:34.38.
The purple and white also excelled in the field events at Boston University. Becky Golia ’18 claimed 10th in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters and Louise Atadja ’16 earned 50th place in the long jump with a distance of 4.48 meters.
Two first-years, Yrenly Yuan and Emily Flaherty, finished back-to-back in the triple jump to take 37th and 38th overall with distances of 10.20 meters and 10.19 meters, respectively.
Next up, the purple and white will travel to Middlebury to compete in the Division III New England Championships on Feb. 19 and 20.
