Men's Track Opens Season at Snowflake Invitational

David Ingraham '18 finished in the top 10 in both the 400 and 800 meter races.

The Amherst men’s track and field team finished their season opener at Tufts’s Snowflake Invitational in seventh place on Friday, April 1.

In the 100-meter dash, Aziz Khan ’18 finished in sixth place with a time of 11.66, an effort that earned three points for the team as a whole.

In the 200-meter dash, David Ingraham ’18 earned fourth place with a time of 23.47, which contributed five points to the team total. He also ran the 400-meter dash in which he finished in eighth place with a time of 53.35.

First-year Kristian Sogaard competed in the 1500-meter run and finished with a time of 4:07.65 and finished seventh.

Places third, fourth and fifth were taken by the Amherst runners in the 5,000-meter run. Steven Lucey ’17, Dan Crowley ’16 and Jeff Seelaus ’16 registered respective times of 15:07.84, 15:12.49 and 15:19.94. Together they collected 19 points for the team.

The 1,000-meter run featured a fifth-place finish by Craig Nelson ’18 (32:45.45), while Cosmo Brossy ’19 finished shortly thereafter in sixth place with a time of 32:47.94 as the duo combined for nine points.

Amherst’s 4x100-meter relay team of Stadler Thompson ’19, Khan, Hasani Figueroa ’18 and Thomas Matthews ’16 powered to a time of 45.61, earning fifth overall.

Figueroa is entering his first outdoor track season, but he was a strong contributor for the team in the indoor season. When asked about his thoughts last track season he said, “I quickly felt the strong sense of camaraderie among the guys.” This will be a big season for Figueroa as he also said, “I’m excited about competing to my fullest and improving as an athlete.”

Amherst returns to action Saturday, April 9 when it hosts the Amherst Spring Fling beginning at 11 a.m. at Pratt Field.
