Women's Track Places 10th at NESCAC Championship

Becki Golia ’18 leaped to a height of 1.63m to claim third in the high jump.

The Amherst women’s track and field team finished with 19 points to place 10th in the 11-team field at the NESCAC championship at the college.

Senior Victoria Hensley tabbed a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter race with a time of 57.81 seconds.

The purple and white demonstrated success in the field events with Becki Golia ’18 finishing third in the high jump with a mark of 1.63m. This mark improved upon her previous career best of 1.62m.

Additionally, Abbey Asare-Bediak ’18, Yrenly Yuan ’19 and Emily Flaherty ’19 finished in the top 10 of the triple jump with distances of 11.41m, 10.68m and 10.61m, respectively.

“While there is room for improvement, I think we performed well with a lot of our teammates setting personal records,” Flaherty said. “Hopefully, this momentum carries through the rest of the season.”
In recognition of her excellent performance in the high jump, Golia was awarded All-NESCAC recognition for her second season in a row.

Select members of the team will compete at the Division III New England Championships at Springfield College on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8.
