After a week off following an impressive spring break trip, the men’s tennis team headed down to Swarthmore, Pennsylvania to face off against No. 20 Case Western Reserve University and No. 19 Kenyon College.
In what was a very successful weekend, the Mammoths took both matches in dominant fashion.
Amherst’s first matchup was Saturday against Case Western, a contest in which the Mammoths showed consistency from start to finish.
It was an outstanding weekend for the Amherst women’s swimming and diving team, as the team’s trip to Samuelson-Muir Pool at Williams ended in a second-place showing at the NESCAC Championships. In a grueling weekend of competition, the Mammoths scored the second most points on all three days en route to a final tally of 1615 points, behind only Williams’ 1971 and nearly 600 points clear of third-place finisher Conn. College.
Two big victories over the weekend have left the Amherst women’s swimming and diving team full of confidence heading into the NESCAC Championships. The winning run started Saturday when the Mammoths upended No. 8 Massachusetts Institute of Technology and included a home victory over Springfield College on Sunday.
Continuing its winning ways, the Amherst women’s swimming and diving team knocked off Middlebury in the Mammoths’ first home meet of the season by a score of 167-122. It was an impressive victory for the 12th-ranked Mammoths, who will likely climb a few spots in the national rankings, as the Panthers had entered the meet ranked 15th in the nation.
Looking to improve upon their 15th overall finish at NCAA Championships last season, the Amherst women’s swimming and diving team started off its season on the right foot with consecutive victories over NESCAC foes Colby and Wesleyan.
This past weekend, the Amherst men’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season at the Wallach Invitational hosted by Bates College. The Mammoths had seven singles entries across four different draws and won two of them thanks to Sean Wei ’21, who won the A bracket, and Kevin Ma ’21, who won the C bracket. Amherst also sent three doubles teams to Maine, highlighted by the pair of Nathan Kaplan ’20 and Zach Bessette ’19, which advanced to the finals of the A bracket.
Kicking off the fall season at Middlebury College, Amherst men’s tennis started with a strong showing in the ITA New England Regional Championship.
The Mammoths had five singles participants, including Sean Wei ’21, who opened his collegiate career with a run to the round of 16. In addition, three doubles teams also competed, with the duo of Zach Bessette ’19 and Kevin Ma ’21 making it all the way to the quarterfinals.
