The Amherst women’s basketball team had a perfect six-week stretch over interterm. The team showed off their dominating offense, beating all of their opponents by at least 15 points, and bringing the team’s record to an impressive 17-0.
The women played their last official game of the first semester on Dec. 13, capping off the first half of the season with a strong win against Bridgewater State. Ali Doswell ’17 led the team with a game-high of 16 points. It was a great overall team effort, with 30 of the team’s points coming from bench players. The final score was 71-45.
On Thursday, Dec. 1, the Amherst women’s basketball team hosted Eastern Connecticut State. The game was part of the NESCAC’s “It’s on Us” week, in which teams across the conference promoted awareness about sexual assault and how to prevent it. Eastern Conn. State entered Thursday’s game with a 3-1 record and Amherst with an impressive 4-0. The home team started familiar faces including Ali and Meredith Doswell ’17, Madeline Eck ’20, Jamie Renner ’17 and Hannah Hackley ’18.
The Amherst women’s basketball team is off to a successful start to its 2016-2017 season. Ending last season with a NESCAC championship and a trip to the NCAA Final Four, expectations for this year’s edition of the purple and white are high.
Football. America’s most popular sport, right? Actually, that’s not the case lately. The National Football League’s ratings have been dropping steadily, around 12 percent yearly, and have seen a significant decrease especially in the 2016 season. How could this be? Some blame it on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest; others say the presidential election coverage distracted them from football. Whatever the reason, what does it mean for the NFL going forward and for football in general?
If I’m being honest, I’m not the world’s biggest baseball fan. I would put myself under the category of people who like the fun family atmosphere of the MLB games more than the actual sport itself. That being said, I would put myself a little higher up than the people who go to the games for the food.
The Amherst women’s basketball team had an exciting weekend of NESCAC play. The team first traveled to Bates on Friday, Feb. 3.
Against the Bobcats, senior Ali Doswell became the program’s overall leading scorer as well as the purple and white’s career leader in made three-pointers.
The purple and white jumped out to an early lead in an impressive first quarter, tallying 33 points in just ten minutes of play. Leading the way for Amherst in this offensive explosion was senior Medith Doswell, who notched 14 points and four assists in the frame.
