With their season opener a mere two weeks away, the Amherst baseball team is feeling confident in the depth and experience of this year’s squad.
Junior captain Harry Roberson said, “We’re very excited for this year. We’re more of a veteran team, which I think will be a strength of ours, but there’s also a good mix of younger guys who’ll get a chance to contribute. There’s been a good buzz through the first couple weeks.”
The 2016-2017 season may have come to an end for the Amherst men’s basketball team this weekend. After defeating Williams twice during the regular season, the purple and white fell to the Ephs 76-69 in the NESCAC quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 18 in Lefrak Gymnasium. Amherst must now wait until Feb. 27 to find out if they will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
This week concluded regular season action for the Amherst men’s basketball team. The purple and white finished with an overall record of 17-6 and a conference record of 7-3, which sets them up as the third seed for this weekend’s NESCAC tournament.
Unfortunately, Amherst heads into the postseason coming off of two devastating losses to Wesleyan and Middlebury. The team has to make some quick adjustments if they are going to progress far into the postseason.
The Amherst men’s basketball team continues to battle their way back to the top of both the NESCAC and national rankings. After two huge wins last week against rivals Williams and Trinity, things are certainly looking up for the squad. With the wins, the purple and white improved to an overall record of 14-4 and a conference record of 4-2, second in the NESCAC behind Tufts.
It has been a trying month for the Amherst men’s basketball team. Heading into interterm as the number one team in the nation, the purple and white fell to No. 16 after multiple unexpected losses. The slump began with a crushing 71-70 loss to Springfield College, only a week after Amherst’s huge double overtime win against Babson College.
It was an exciting week for the Amherst men’s basketball team, as the team came away with three big wins, improving its overall record to 6-0. The purple and white hosted Westfield State University on Tuesday, Dec. 1 and, led by strong offensive performances from seniors Eric Conklin and Reid Berman, cruised past the Owls 84-59.
Amherst took control early, as consecutive three-pointers from Johnny McCarthy ’18 and Jeff Racy ’17 put the purple and white up 6-0. From there, Amherst went on two huge runs, sparked by clutch triples from Racy and Jayde Dawson ’18.
The 2016 season came to a heartbreaking end for the Amherst men’s soccer team last weekend, as the purple and white fell to Brandeis University in penalty kicks in the NCAA Sweet 16. After battling back from a one goal deficit and dominating the stat sheet, Amherst was unable to get the result that they deserved and advance in tournament play.
