Last weekend, the Amherst women’s track and field team competed in the two-day NEICAAA Championships at Boston University last Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, Amherst had two runners featured in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash. Both senior Victoria Hensley and first-year Julia Asin competed in the event. Hensley finished with a time of 58.45 seconds and Asin with a time of 59.45.
Hensley’s time broke the indoor school record for the 400-meter dash previously held by All-American Naomi Bates ’14 with a time of 58.61.
The Amherst women’s track and field team competed and impressed in the Tufts Invitational last Saturday.
First-year Julia Asin finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.42, while Sarah Whelan ’17 and Katherie Hom ’19 finished back-to-back to take both 10th and 11th place. Whelan completed the race with a time of 28.50, and Hom 28.64.
Asin also competed in the 400-meter dash, claiming second place overall with a time of 59.54. Danielle Griffin ’18 finished fourth in the event with a time of 1:02:73.
The Amherst women’s indoor track team enjoyed a successful interterm season and started the second semester strong with a third-place finish at the Springfield Invitational this past weekend.
Sprinters Julia Asin ’19 and Victoria Hensley ’16 finished back-to-back in a fast 200-meter heat, finishing third and fourth with times of 27.25 and 27.34, respectively.
