After sending one runner to the NCAA Division III National Championship race last season, the Amherst women’s cross country team is looking to build on that success and grow stronger as a program for the 2017 season. The young squad graduated seven members of the class of 2017 and welcomed five first years to the class of 2021.
The women’s track and field team hosted the Amherst College Spring Fling on Saturday April 8 and finished fourth with a total of 53.50 points. Worchester Polytechnic Institutue won the meet with a score of 97.50, while Trinity followed in second with a score of 60 points. Wheaton College scored 54.50 points to finish third.
On the track, Rubii Tamen ’19 and Anna Buford ’20 each posted impressive showings in the 100-meter race, running 13.00 and 13.56 seconds to clinch the fourth and ninth spots, respectively.
The Amherst women’s indoor track and field team sent Katherine Treanor ’20, Abbey Asare-Bediako ’18 and Kiana Herold ’17 to compete at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 10-11. Held at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, the meet marked the final competition of the indoor season for the purple and white.
This past weekend the Amherst women’s indoor track and field team traveled to Boston to compete in the Valentine Invitational on Friday, Feb. 10. In its final regular season meet, the purple and white posted some impressive results against a field of runners from colleges and universities across all three NCAA Divisions.
In the 200-meter dash for the track events, Rubii Tamen ’19 finished 116th with a time of 26.96, and Anna Buford ’20 placed second on the team in the event, finishing 143rd overall (27.41).
