The Amherst women’s ice hockey team played its final regular season series last weekend, Feb. 17-19, with two games against NESCAC rival Wesleyan. The team came away with a 1-1 overtime tie on Friday and a 4-2 victory on Sunday.
On Friday, the purple and white traveled to Middletown, Connecticut, to face off against the Cardinals.
The first period ended scoreless, though Caitlyn Ryan ’17 almost broke the game open 16 minutes into the first with a low wrist shot on goal. However, Cardinal goalie Allegra Grant made the save, keeping the game scoreless.
The Amherst women’s ice hockey team travelled to Clinton, New York for a two-game series against NESCAC foe Hamilton this past weekend. They fell twice to the Continentals with a 3-2 overtime loss on Friday and a 1-0 loss on Saturday. With these losses, Amherst falls to 11-7-4 on the season.
On Friday, Amherst came out strong and went up 1-0 just 12 minutes into the game. Jamie McNamara ’19 beat a Hamilton defender in a footrace and deflected the loose puck between the legs of Hamilton goalie Sam Walther.
The Amherst women’s ice hockey team had two tough matchups this week, playing twice against NECAC rival Williams. After seeing their five-game win streak broken last Tuesday, the purple and white found themselves with two overtime draws against Williams, 1-1 and 4-4.
Amherst came out ready to face archrival Williams on Friday. Midway through the first period, Williams put the first goal on the board when Sara Lehman tipped in Emily Eide’s wrist shot.
The Amherst women’s ice hockey team had a great start to the new year. The women played eight games over interterm, compiling a record of 6-1-1, winning the last five straight games.
On New Year’s Day, the purple and white pulled out a strong 8-0 victory in a game at the University of Southern Maine. Anne Malloy ’20 scored first for Amherst, recording her first collegiate goal. Further contributing to Amherst’s impressive margin was sophomore forward Alex Toupal ’19, completing a hat trick for her third, fourth and fifth goals of the season.
Amherst women’s ice hockey improved its record to 1-2-1 for the season this weekend in a two game series against Trinity. Amherst hosted the Bantams, winning 4-1 on Friday, Dec. 2 and coming out with a 1-1 draw on Saturday, which was also the team’s fifth Annual Pink in the Rink game.
The puck dropped for the first time this 2016-2017 season for the Amherst women’s ice hockey team last Friday, Nov. 18. The purple and white faced off against Connecticut College for its opening series. In two very close games, the Camels prevailed, beating Amherst 1-0 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday.
Tuesday, Nov. 1 marked the first official practice for Amherst women’s ice hockey’s 2016-2017 season. The purple and white are excited to get back on the ice and get started after an offseason of training and preparation. Last season, the women ended their 2015-2016 campaign with a tough loss to Plattsburgh State in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the team which would go on to win the championship. Nonetheless, they finished with an impressive 22-3-3 record (13-1-2 in the conference) and a NESCAC championship appearance.
