Overcoming a slow start, the 11th-ranked Amherst women’s basketball team extended its home win streak to 95 games with a 77-58 victory over NESCAC-rival Conn. College last Friday. The Jeffs trailed by as many as 10 points during the first half, but turned a three-point deficit at the intermission into a 19-point win.

First-year Ali Doswell led the women’s basketball team to another NESCAC win as the Jeffs took on Colby in Maine last Friday night. The 67-44 victory was Amherst’s 13th-straight win over the Mules.

Over the month of December, the Amherst women’s basketball team posted five out-of-conference wins, each game by a margin of victory of at least 10 points. The Jeffs took on Eastern Connecticut State, Albertus Magnus, Bridgewater State, Vassar and Marywood. Megan Robertson ’15 continued to have stellar performances during each game, contributing heavily to points and rebounds for the Jeffs. Other notable performances over the course of December included Marley Giddins ’16, Cheyenne Pritchard ’16 and rookie twins, Meredith Doswell ’17 and Ali Doswell ’17.

The women’s basketball team is off to a strong start for the 2013-14 season, posting four impressive out-of-conference wins over the past two weeks.

In the season opener on Nov. 19, three Jeffs scored in the double-digits as they defeated Keene State, 67-52.

This win extended the Jeffs home winning streak to 87 games.

After a dominant second half, Amherst is now 13-2 all time against the Owls.

Men
In their last tournament of the fall season, the Jeffs placed ninth at the ECAC New England Division III Championships last weekend. Although not their best result, the team still put forth a strong showing. First-year Liam Fine led the Jeffs and has been a consistent force on the team throughout the season.

Fine finished with a two round score of 161, allowing him to place ninth overall.

Men
Two Jeffs received individual honors while the men’s golf team had a week off ahead of the ECAC Championships this weekend.

Sophomore James Line and junior Josh Moser were both named to NESCAC All-Conference Teams for their performances at the conference championship qualifier.

Line finished fifth overall at the tournament, earning him a spot on the first team, while Moser finished tied for 12th overall and received second team honors.

Men
The men’s golf team traveled home from Brunswick, Maine this weekend with a third place finish under their belts and a spot in the NESCAC Golf Championships. This was the team’s strongest showing in the season thus far, finishing with a team two-round total of 619.
