The Amherst College men’s track team participated in the annual Valentine Invitational at Boston University last weekend. Running against a competitive field of teams from Divs. I, II and III, the team looked to build on the momentum of the recent victory at the Springfield Invitational and a strong performance at the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
The third-seeded Amherst College volleyball team reached the semifinals of the NESCAC championship last weekend, defeating Conn. College before falling to second-seeded archrivals Williams. Hoping for an at-large bid, the Firedogs were ultimately denied a chance to play in the Div. III volleyball championship as three teams from the NESCAC (Williams, Tufts and Bowdoin) made the 64-team field.
The Amherst College volleyball team finished regular season action this week with victories against NESCAC foes Bowdoin and Colby. Amherst improved to 20-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play, securing the third seed in this weekend’s NESCAC postseason tournament.
The Amherst women’s volleyball team hosted the two-day Hall of Fame Tournament this weekend, sweeping Wellesley on Friday evening before falling to MIT in four sets and defeating Brandeis in straight sets on Saturday.
Marialexa Natsis ’18 was named to the all-tournament team, as she floored 16 kills on 27 attempts with just two errors to record a .519 hitting percentage in addition to her six blocks in Amherst’s three games.
Last weekend, the Amherst women’s volleyball team earned a split in two crucial NESCAC matches, beating Connecticut College in a come-from-behind 3-2 victory and falling to Tufts in straight sets. Afterwards, the team defeated Endicott at Tufts in straight sets to finish with a 2-1 week overall.
The Amherst women’s volleyball team claimed two wins over Middlebury and Hamilton in NESCAC play this past weekend. Now at the halfway point of the regular season, the Firedogs improved to 10-4 overall (4-1 NESCAC).
On Friday night, Amherst recorded a 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-22) come-from-behind victory in LeFrak Gymnasium over Midd. Sophomores Maggie Danner and Nicole Gould led the Firedogs to the victory with 17 and 16 kills, respectively.
After six straight wins and 18 straight set victories, the Amherst volleyball team entered their home opener against archrival Williams on Friday night with high expectations. The Firedogs felt confident entering the match, but the Ephs, last year’s conference champions, would be one of the toughest contests of the year.
Williams emerged victorious on the night in a thrilling five-set match (25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 24-26, 15-13) that included 49 ties and 26 lead changes.
