The Amherst College baseball team extended its undefeated (6-0) start to the NESCAC season with a sweep over Little Three rivals Williams last weekend. The team recorded a 3-1 record for the week, falling to Eastern Connecticut State, a strong non-conference opponent,on Monday after claiming the sweep to finish with a 13-7 record overall.

Returning from their trip to Florida with a .500 record, the Amherst College baseball team claimed a close victory over non-conference opponents Bates on Wednesday night before starting their league schedule with a comfortable three-game sweep of Middlebury on Friday and Saturday. With the wins, the Jeffs improve to 10-6 on the year (3-0 conference).

The Amherst College men’s baseball team kicked off their season with their annual spring break trip to Florida. In 12 games against some of the top Division III teams in the country, the Jeffs recorded a .500 record at 6-6.

Men

Five members of the Amherst College men’s indoor track and field team competed at the 2015 NCAA Division III championships on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Amherst claimed 32nd overall in the 66-team field.

In Friday’s action, Mohamed Hussein ’18, one of two Amherst athletes to qualify for an individual event on the national stage, ran the 5,000-meter run after qualifying at the NEICAAA championships. The first-year crossed the line in a time of 14:57.63 to claim 13th overall.

Men

The men’s indoor track and field team won the 2015 ECAC Div. III indoor track and field championships last weekend. The purple and white scored 42 points in the two-day meet for first-place in the 56-team field.

A strong showing in the mid-distance events led Amherst to victory. Kevin Connors ‘17 claimed the only individual win of the meet for the Jeffs, winning the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:59.33.

Men

The Amherst College men’s indoor track and field distance medley relay team set a NCAA Div. III record with a time of 9:48.61 at the 2015 NEICAAA indoor track and field championships hosted by Boston University last Friday, Feb. 27 and Saturday, Feb. 28.

Men

The Amherst College men’s track team traveled to Springfield last Saturday to compete at the 2015 Div. III New England Championships. The Jeffs earned 40 points to finish tied for seventh overall with Bowdoin in the 26-team field.

The highlight of the day for the team was the distance medley relay, in which four Amherst runners continued their strong performances this season. The team of Jesse Fajnzylber ’17, Nathan Showalter ’17, Chris Butko ’18 and Greg Turissini ’15 claimed first place with a time of 10:19.21.
