Megan Doyen ’13 and Courtney Baranek ’14 netted two goals apiece on Saturday night in Amherst’s 5-1 victory over sixth-seeded Hamilton College in the NESCAC quarterfinals. With the win, the third-seeded Jeffs advance to the semifinals where they will face off against second-seeded Bowdoin, who defeated Williams, 5-3, on Saturday. Amherst is seeking its fourth conference title and the team’s first since 2010.
The atmosphere was electric in Orr Rink on Saturday afternoon as the Amherst Women’s Hockey team topped Williams, 4-2, in the team’s inaugural Pink in the Rink game to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. The Jeffs scored a decisive victory on Friday evening as well, downing the Ephs, 7-2. The weekend sweep marked Amherst’s 14th consecutive win against their rival.
This week, the Jeffs ended their regular season by winning once and tying once in a two game set at Bowdoin.
Going into postseason play, Amherst stands in second place in the NESCAC at 19-4-1 (13-2-1 NESCAC), having already secured hosting rights for the first round of the NESCAC championship.
Amherst got to work last Friday with a 5-2 win in Brunswick, Maine. Senior Josie Fisher led the charge with two goals on the day.
Last weekend, red-hot women’s ice hockey extended their winning streak to seven after sweeping Williams on their own ice. “Our younger players stepped up and put us on the scoreboard,” senior tri-captain Stephanie Clegg said. “We outplayed Williams and received significant contributions from our rookies, making us an even stronger and deeper team.
