After an impressive 7-0 start to the season, the men’s lacrosse team stumbled to a pair of losses last week, falling to No. 15 Wesleyan 6-3 before suffering a shock 12-6 defeat to Hamilton on Saturday.
The Jeffs (7-2, 3-2 NESCAC) saw their national ranking plummet from No. 3 to No. 14, and now face an uphill climb in their pursuit of the NESCAC’s top seed.
Amherst maintained its undefeated record through Spring Break, piling up victories over Bowdoin, Marywood, Eastern Connecticut State and Nazareth in the off-week to push its season record to 7-0.
Bolstered by clutch goaltending and tenacious forechecking, the men’s hockey team battled its way to a NESCAC championship this weekend, grinding out victories over Williams (2-1) and Middlebury (4-3) to capture the program’s first conference title in three years.

The NESCAC-leading Jeffs (21-3-1, 17-1-0 league) — ranked No. 3 in the nation — will face off against Williams at Orr Rink on Saturday afternoon, with a berth to the championship game on the line.
Bolstered by the stellar play of senior goaltender Jonathan La Rose, the men’s hockey team closed out the regular season with road victories over Williams (3-1) and Middlebury (2-1) last weekend. The Jeffs (20-3-1, 17-1-0 NESCAC), ranked No. 3 in the national polls, are riding an eight-game winning streak into their NESCAC Quarterfinal contest against Hamilton on Saturday night.
While the Jeffs picked up two wins over tough opponents this weekend, head coach Jack Arena said he was unhappy with the team’s effort on the ice.

Bolstered by a dynamic power play and a balanced scoring attack, the men’s hockey team clinched the No. 1 seed in the NESCAC tournament with a pair of emphatic wins over Tufts (score 8-0) and Conn. College (5-2) last weekend. The Jeffs (18-3-1, 15-1-0 NESCAC) have now reeled off six straight victories, outscoring their opponents 30-5 in that span.
The recent surge has catapulted the Jeffs to No. 3 in the national polls — the highest such ranking in program history. In addition, Amherst has clinched home-ice advantage throughout the NESCAC tournament.
With a gritty 3-1 win over Bowdoin this weekend, the men’s hockey team has skated to the cusp of its first regular season NESCAC championship in three years.

Fueled by aggressive forechecking, balanced scoring production and stingy defense, the men’s hockey team pounded and pummeled its opponents last weekend, as the Jeffs earned shutout victories over Wesleyan (6-0) and Trinity (3-0).
With the two wins, the Jeffs (14-3-1, 11-1-0 NESCAC) moved four points ahead of second-place Bowdoin (8-2-2 NESCAC) for the conference’s top spot. In a battle of league heavyweights, Amherst and Bowdoin will square off at Orr Rink this Friday night, at 7 pm.
