Women’s Basketball
After starting the season with a 14-game win streak, the women’s basketball team suffered its earliest NCAA tournament exit since 2008. The Jeffs went 26-4 this past year with their only losses coming at less-than-ideal timing. The first was against Tufts (63-56), which snapped their opening winning stretch, while the second was a 65-63 thriller at the hands of Williams.
Steamboat Springs, Colo., otherwise known as “Ski Town U.S.A," is home to more Winter Olympians than any other place in the country. It is also home to senior biochemistry major Christopher Finch, who moved to the mountain town when he was seven years old. While he may not be a competitive skier, Finch still took advantage of all Colorado had to offer by staying active, playing hockey and exploring the great outdoors.

Riding a 12-game win streak into the NESCAC tournament, the field hockey team’s unbeaten stretch was snapped by Middlebury in the 59th minute of the conference semifinals, halting their postseason run earlier than they had both expected and hoped.
The fourth-ranked Amherst men’s tennis team came home NESCAC champions this past weekend for the sixth time in team history. After receiving a first round bye, the second-seeded Jeffs were set to face third-seeded Williams in the conference semifinals. Nationally speaking, the 11th-ranked and reigning national champion Ephs had dropped six spots in the recently announced ITA rankings, while Amherst fell one spot to fourth in the country after losing to Middlebury last weekend.
The third-ranked Amherst men’s tennis team had their 17-match win streak snapped on Saturday by eighth-ranked NESCAC foe Middlebury. With both teams previously undefeated in the NESCAC and the top-seed of the conference at stake, the Panthers edged the Jeffs 5-4.
Amherst got on the board first with a win the top doubles spot, as senior co-captains Joey Fritz and Justin Reindel defeated Alex Johnston and Andrew Lebovitz 8-6. However, Middlebury answered with a win in the second spot, as Bratner Jones and Palmer Campbell topped sophomores Aaron Revzin and Andrew Yaraghi 8-3.
The third-ranked Amherst men’s tennis team remained undefeated in the NESCAC with five wins over conference teams this past weekend. The Jeffs’ success culminated on Sunday with a 5-4 victory over fifth-ranked archrival Williams on the Ephs’ home courts.
The team’s weekend began on Friday with a home match against Conn. College and an away match against 27th-ranked Trinity. Having to split squads, a number of Jeffs saw the court, and Amherst defeated both teams 9-0 to add two more sweeps to their growing season total.
The now third-ranked Amherst men’s tennis team extended its win streak to 12 matches this past weekend with wins over Bates and 12th-ranked Bowdoin. The Jeffs improve to 24-2 on the season and remain unbeaten in the NESCAC.
