Men

The Amherst men’s tennis team had an excellent day on Saturday, shutting out MIT, 9-0. Nine different players represented Amherst in their three doubles and six singles matches on the day. Overall, the Jeffs performed very well, outscoring MIT 92-45 in total games.

The men’s and women’s tennis team both got off to an excellent start this past weekend at the ITA Tournament held at Middlebury for the men and at Williams for the women. The Jeffs brought home three titles: women’s doubles thanks to dynamic duo and reigning NCAA Div. III champions, Jordan Brewer ’14 and Gabby Devlin ’14; women’s singles also won by Brewer; and men’s doubles won by Joey Fritz ’14 and Ben Fife ’16. The weekend displayed some great play, and the fall season looks extremely promising for both teams.

Coming off an 11-5 season, the Amherst field hockey team looks to have another strong showing this fall. Last year’s edition of the Lady Jeffs got off to a strong start, winning their first five games, before stumbling to the tune of three straight losses (three of them in overtime). In fact, four of the team’s five losses last year came in OT, incuding their last of the season, a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Middlebury in the NESCAC playoffs. Notably, only one of those losses came at home.

Reilly Horan grew up under the mantra “no gesture is ever too grand” and has manifested this theme in all aspects of her life ever since. The warmth of her kindness, along with her humorous and outgoing personality, has made her a well-known and well-liked individual on campus. Students and faculty both applaud her for her ability to bring people together, which is evident through her involvement with the Theater and Dance Department, the English Department, the softball team and the Random Acts of Kindness club.

Women
The top-ranked women’s tennis team was put to the test on Sunday when they traveled to face third-ranked Middlebury. The Lady Jeffs were able to squeeze out the win, 5-4, and end their regular season undefeated in Div. III play.

Amherst snagged two of the three doubles matches as Jordan Brewer ’14 and Gabby Devlin ’14 finished their season undefeated as a doubles pair, beating Brittney Faber and Leah Kepping, 8-3. Caroline Richman ’13 and Safaa Aly ’15 notched the other win for Amherst as they easily defeated Margot Marchese and Lauren Amos.

The Amherst track & field team competed at the NESCAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday, April 27 at Tufts Univ. The men finished sixth out of 13 teams, while the women were eighth out of 11. Host Tufts captured the team title on both sides.
