The previously-unbeaten football team finally found their match last week, losing for the first time in over a year. The Lord Jeffs had been riding an incredible 10-game win streak, dating to the beginning of last season.
Coming off a resounding victory in their season opener two weeks ago, the Amherst football team traveled to Bowdoin College on Saturday for their first road contest of the year.
The Jeffs were looking for their seventh consecutive victory against the Polar Bears, and they earned it in impressive fashion, coming from behind for a 22-10 victory.
It was Amherst’s tenth straight win overall, a streak dating back to the beginning of last season and kept the Jeffs undefeated on the year, 2-0.
Looking to get their 2012 season off to a solid start, the Amherst football squad played host to the Hamilton Continentals on Saturday afternoon.
Returning to Pratt Field as the defending NESCAC champions, the Lord Jeffs were not fazed in the slightest by any added pressure they might have felt, running away with the 38-14 victory.
WOMEN
This past weekend, the women’s golf team began their 2012 campaign at the NYU Invitational.
The Lady Jeffs are coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, a year which saw them earn two victories and finish no worse than third in all other tournaments.
Although they lost an exceptionally talented senior class, the team has welcomed five new members onto the squad.
Their depth will take a hit, but with a group of reliable veterans leading the way, this team has the potential to build on last year’s success.
Golf
Women
The women’s golf team, which has evolved into one of the premier Division III squads in the country under the tutelage of head coach Michelle Morgan, achieved yet another strong season this year.
Women’s Tennis
Last weekend, the women’s tennis team traveled to Wellesley College to compete in the Nor’Easter Bowl. The third-ranked Lady Jeffs dominated the competition and, with three straight impressive performances, earned themselves the tournament crown.
Women
After falling just short of a National Championship last season, the women’s tennis team opened their 2012 campaign in great form over spring break. The Lady Jeffs, who finished as the NCAA runner-up last year, looked very strong and were undefeated in their four contests. They have since begun their NESCAC season, traveling to Williams this past weekend where they lost a closely fought battle.
