With two impressive weeks of golf, the women’s golf team put the finishing touches on what has been a remarkably successful fall season. The Lady Jeffs earned third place out of eleven teams at the Williams Fall Classic two weeks ago and followed up that performance by placing second in the year-end event, the Wellesley Invitational, this past weekend.
Women
The women’s golf team sustained its early season success at the Mount Holyoke Invitational this past weekend, securing a third-place result in the team competition with a two-day total of 654.
The team, which began the season ranked 12th nationally among Div. III schools, continued its solid swinging this weekend, trailing only Williams (634) and Middlebury (644). Starting the weekend strong, the Jeffs actually held second place at the end of Day 1.
Last weekend, the men’s golf team opened its 2011 fall season at the Trinity College Invitational. Held at the Tallwood and Blackledge country clubs, the tournament represented the first test for the Jeffs since their impressive 2010-2011 season.
Last year, the team qualified for the NESCAC Championship for the first time in team history, and although the Jeffs lost two seniors from that team, they return eight players and have high expectations for this season.
The 13th-ranked women’s golf team put up a fine showing at the 2011 Jack Leaman Women’s Golf Championship, which was played out at the Hickory Ridge Country Club last weekend. The two-time defending champions of the event shot a two-day total of 667 to finish second and continue building momentum in what is becoming a strong spring season. Only Methodist University (651), the top-ranked team in the nation, outperformed the Jeffs, who upset No. 3-ranked Williams (677).
Women
The Lady Jeffs come into the fall season on the heels of a successful 2010-2011 campaign. Currently ranked 14th in the nation, the team will be looking to improve on past successes with a host of experience at its disposal.
