The Amherst College football team opened the 2015 season by defeating Bates College decisively on Saturday, Sept. 26 thanks to 28 unanswered points.
The purple and white displayed great offensive prowess: They amassed 556 yards (the most yards in a game since 2011) en route to a commanding 37-14 victory. The Jeffs have now won the last eight contests against the Bobcats, pushing their record over Bates to 24-4-2 since their first matchup in 1901.
After an undefeated season last year, the Amherst football team certainly has high expectations for 2015.
In their 2014 campaign, the Jeffs secured the NESCAC championship in a decisive 17-9 victory over Williams on Pratt Field, the first of the “Biggest Little Game in America” series to be played under the lights.
Despite falling in last Sunday’s NESCAC championship to rival Tufts, the Amherst men’s lacrosse team received a bid to the NCAA tournament and will continue its season.
On Saturday, May 2, the Jeffs faced fifth-seeded Bates in the NESCAC semifinal at Pratt Field. The purple and white had an exciting 10-8 victory over the Bobcats in which sophomore goalie Cody Tranbarger made 17 saves and Chris Albanese ’17 had a game-high four goals.
The top-seeded men’s lacrosse team will be hosting the NESCAC championship this weekend, following a stellar effort led by Chris Albanese ’17 and Quinn Moroney ’16 last Saturday. Albanese contributed six goals while Moroney tallied six assists in the 12-9 victory over Colby on April 25.
The Amherst men’s lacrosse team improved to 13-1 on the season after a forceful 12-6 win over No. 3 Tufts University on Saturday, April 18. The victory at Pratt Field secured the Jeffs’ leading position in the NESCAC before their upcoming final game of the season against Trinity on Wednesday, April 22.
The men’s lacrosse team advanced its record to 10-1, starting with a win over Springfield College on March 24. Though their winning streak ended with a loss to Middlebury on March 28, the Jeffs didn’t lose stride, following that game with big wins over Wesleyan and Williams to be crowned the Little Three champs.
The sixth-ranked men’s lacrosse team continued its undefeated streak over spring break, advancing to 7-0 this season. The Jeffs beat non-conference opponent Endicott at home Friday, March 13 before traveling to Owen Mills, Maryland to defeat Washington College on March 17. The purple and white closed the week with a decisive 13-7 victory over NESCAC opponent Hamilton on Saturday, March 21 in sunny Florida.
