The Amherst men’s ice hockey team had two tough conference games this weekend against Conn. College and Tufts at home in Orr Rink.
Though the Jeffs finished the weekend with two 1-1 ties, the team extended their unbeaten streak to 11 straight games, continuing their strong play during the month of February.
This past weekend the Amherst men’s ice hockey team returned to Orr Rink for the first time in over a month. The Jeffs’ two victories against Colby and Bowdoin indicated that they were excited to be back in front of their home crowd.
The Lord Jeffs returned to conference play this past weekend with two strong victories over NESCAC rivals Trinity and Wesleyan, two wins to finish a grueling road trip. The team is looking forward to returning to Orr Rink this weekend afer a month on the road to make a run at a regular season NESCAC championship.
The men’s ice hockey team kept themselves busy over break, taking down Middlebury on Dec. 6, before falling in a tough 1-0 loss to archrival Williams at home the following day.
Following the new year, the Jeffs returned to action at the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament in Norwich, VT. They managed to split their two games, with a 4-3 win over Plymouth State, and a 5-1 loss to Norwich University.
The Men’s Ice Hockey team certainly managed to keep themselves busy over the break.
They defeated two NESCAC rivals, Trinity and Wesleyan, and shut out St. Michael’s College at Orr Rink.
They then traveled to Babson College where they were dealt their first loss of the 2013 season.
Both Amherst and Trinity were undefeated coming into their game on Saturday night.
The Bantams got off to a hot start and managed to get the first score of the game from Sean Orlando, and they then continued to attack throughout the rest of the period.
This past weekend the men’s ice hockey team sailed to two big victories to open their 2013 campaign.
Playing Friday night in the home opener at historic Orr Rink, the Jeffs took on Hamilton College. They then had a quick turnaround, as they had to venture to Clinton, N.Y. the next day in an attempt to take down the Continentals once more in back-to-back games.
The first period of the first contest of the year was filled with tenacity on both sides. A chippy game in general, the Jeffs were able to make their physical presence known early on.
The Amherst men’s ice hockey team traveled to Middlebury last Friday to play the Panthers, who were 1-3-2 going into the game. It was a tight game for almost 60 minutes, but the Jeffs managed to pull away in the third and achieve a 5-3 victory over their fellow NESCAC competitor. They followed that road trip with another bus ride to Williamstown, where they played the Ephs on Saturday. An equally close game, it was archrival Williams who managed to edge ahead in the third and defeat Amherst 4-3, improving to 5-2-1 on the year.
