Men’s soccer began the 2015 season impressively, scoring five goals over two games to move to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the NESCAC.
Less than five minutes into the Jeffs’ season opener on the road against New England College, Amherst’s offensive attack began to impose its will on the Pilgrims’ defense.
This year the men’s soccer team looks to continue its impressive streak of five straight Sweet 16 appearances and nine consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament.
After falling to the 20th-ranked St. John Fisher College this past Saturday, men’s basketball saw their fifth straight appearance in the NCAA tournament ended in the second round following a victory over Sage College in the opening round. Following their loss to St. John Fisher, Amherst was unable to secure a fifth consecutive trip to the Sweet 16 and finished the 2014-2015 season with a 21-8 overall record.
Men’s basketball made its fourth straight appearance in the NESCAC championship this past Sunday, but was unable to secure its fourth consecutive NESCAC championship after a nail-biting overtime loss to Wesleyan. However, even though Amherst’s loss meant that Wesleyan earned the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, Amherst will be making its fifth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance due to the team’s strong work during the 2014-2015 regular season and 2015 NESCAC tournament.
Following a loss in the regular season finale against Middlebury, Amherst men’s basketball responded well in the NESCAC quarterfinals on the road against Tufts to advance to the NESCAC semifinals this weekend.
While men’s basketball continued its winning ways with a mid-week victory over Lasell, pushing Amherst’s winning streak to six straight, the Jeffs were unable to conclude the regular season in the manner in which they had hoped for after falling to Middlebury on the road. With these two games in the books, the Jeffs finished the 2015 regular season with an 18-6 overall record and a 6-4 NESCAC record.
The Amherst men’s basketball team built on its winning ways with a strong showing in two road NESCAC games this past week. Amherst came away victorious in both contests, mostly a credit to the team’s stellar shooting. With the wins, the Jeffs now stand at 17-5 overall and 6-3 in the NESCAC, and they sport a five-game winning streak.
