Over the past month, the Amherst women’s swim and dive team competed in three meets. The eighth ranked women won two of the three meets, beating both Union and Connecticut College, falling only to archrival Williams.
Strong performances from underclassmen continued to help propel the Amherst women’s swim and dive team to victory over NESCAC rival Middlebury this weekend. This win marks the purple and white’s third straight dual-meet triumph.
Ingrid Shu ’20, Geralyn Lam ’18, Stephanie Moriarty ’18 and Zoe Pappas ’19 comprised the 200-yard medley relay team that captured the first victory of the meet with a fast time of 1:49.44.
Amidst the homecoming excitement and activity this past weekend, the Friends of Amherst Athletics hosted Eras of Triumph: Celebrating 40 Years of women’s athletics at Amherst on Friday, Nov. 11 in Alumni Gymnasium. The 2016-2017 school year marks the 40th anniversary of women’s athletics at the college, and the event was organized in an effort to honor both the pioneers of the integration of women in athletics and the decorated athletes that have helped Amherst to become one of the most competitive NCAA Division III institutions in women’s sports.
The 2016-17 season came to an end this past Saturday for the Amherst volleyball team as they fell to the second seeded Middlebury 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-23) in the NESCAC semifinals. Top-seeded Tufts hosted the three-day conference tournament, which began Friday, Nov. 4 and concluded on Sunday, Nov. 6.
In the last week of regular season action, the Amherst volleyball team went 2-1 at home, facing non-conference opponent Springfield College and finishing with two NESCAC matchups against Trinity and Wesleyan.
The Amherst volleyball team put on a dominant performance in LeFrak Gymnasium this weekend, finishing the two-day tilt with a 2-0 record.
In its first game of the weekend, the purple and white took on Colby. The Mules proved no match for the Amherst women who took the contest in just three sets (25-18, 25-13, 25-5), making short work of their opponents in the final match.
The Amherst volleyball team had an action packed past two weeks. After taking a week off from game action, the purple and white traveled to New London, Connecticut to take on Connecticut College.
The Camels halted Amherst’s three-game win streak in NESCAC play, as they edged the purple and white 3-1 (25-21, 13-25, 25-23, 25-23). The Amherst women did not go quietly however, with Maggie Danner ’17 and Nicole Gould ’17 smashing the ball for 15 and 13 kills respectively.
