The No. 22 Amherst men’s cross-country team opened its 2014 campaign this past weekend at the UMass Invitational. The team has its highest preseason ranking since 2010.
“In addition to a solid class of returners, we have a great group of freshmen that will hopefully vie for a spot on varsity (top seven). We have ambitious goals for the upcoming season, including a trip … the national championship in November,” said Greg Turissini '15 regarding the team's promise.
Replicating the start of last season, the Amherst women’s cross country team took first place at the Smith Invitational on Saturday. In the 196-runner field, the Jeffs’ top seven finishers were all in the top-25, securing Amherst’s first place finish with 42 points. Rounding out the top three were Conn. College (84) and Wellesley (100).
The Amherst women’s lacrosse team traveled to Hartford, Conn. this weekend for the NESCAC championship. The Jeffs beat archrival Williams 9-4 on Saturday in the semifinals to advance to their first conference championship since 2005, where they fell to top seeded Trinity College 10-7. The team’s only two losses this season have come from the Bantams.
The third-ranked Amherst women’s lacrosse team went yet another week with an unscathed record thanks to two wins on the road over Springfield and NESCAC archrival Williams. The Jeffs are now 9-0 in the NESCAC.
The Amherst women’s lacrosse team improved to 12-0 overall and 8-0 in the NESCAC with three victories over Conn. College, 17th-ranked Tufts and Skidmore, respectively. With these wins, the team’s unbeaten record now is the longest unbeaten streak in team history.
On Saturday, April 12, the Jeffs took on the Jumbos for their Senior Day matchup.
“Our seniors are leading the way on all fronts, and I am just trying to stay out of the way and guide this determined and talented team in the right direction each game,” head coach Chris Paradis said.
The third-ranked Amherst women’s lacrosse team amassed four wins over the past two weeks, bringing their undefeated record to 6-0 in the NESCAC and 9-0 overall. Their recent victories featuring two key NESCAC wins over fifth-ranked Middlebury, who was previously ranked third going into the game, and 13th-ranked Colby. With an 11-6 win last night against Conn. College, the Jeffs are off to their best start since 2000 season.
The 11th-ranked Amherst women’s lacrosse team notched two wins this week to continue their undefeated start to their 2014 campaign.
On Wednesday, the Jeffs walked away with a 16-2 defeat of Babson College in their home opener on Gooding Field. Senior captain Krista Zsitvay led the Jeffs with five goals off of just six shots to bring her season total to a team leading nine goals.
“We got on a roll and never looked back. They are a good team, and we put them on their heels and it was hard for them to generate much attack,” Head Coach Chris Paradis said.
