Winter Storm Nemo may have altered the Amherst Women’s Ice Hockey schedule this weekend, but that didn’t deter the Lord Jeffs from taking down league rival Trinity, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Bantams held an 8-1-1 record heading into Sunday’s game, but Amherst smashed that record to improve to 11-8-1 overall, and 9-3-1 in NESCAC play. The victory came after a tough 3-1 loss to non-conference opponent Norwich last Wednesday.
The atmosphere was electric in Orr Rink on Saturday afternoon as the Amherst Women’s Hockey team topped Williams, 4-2, in the team’s inaugural Pink in the Rink game to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. The Jeffs scored a decisive victory on Friday evening as well, downing the Ephs, 7-2. The weekend sweep marked Amherst’s 14th consecutive win against their rival.
The Amherst Women’s Hockey team split a pair of home games against Conn. College last weekend after wrapping up seven consecutive road games since Dec. 8. The Jeffs suffered a tough 1-0 loss to the Camels on Saturday evening but bounced back on Sunday with an exciting overtime victory. Amherst is now 8-7-1 on the season and 6-3-1 in the NESCAC league.
After a doubleheader victory over local rival Western New England Univ. last Wednesday, the women’s softball team completed a weekend sweep of Hamilton to remain undefeated in NESCAC West (6-0). The Jeffs are now 27-1 with just two weeks left in regular season play.
On Friday, the softball team was dealt its first loss of the season after falling 9-7 in the second game of a doubleheader against Keene State. Last Wednesday, however, the Jeffs earned two shutouts against Westfield State and are now 22-1 on the season — the best start in program history.
The women’s softball team extended its record-breaking win streak to 17 on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of rival Williams to remain undefeated in the NESCAC. Last Friday, the Lord Jeffs used a late three-run homer to defeat the Ephs on the road, after grabbing both wins in a double header against Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday.
The women’s basketball team earned its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Final Four last weekend after two decisive victories in LeFrak Gymnasium. The Jeffs defeated York College 79-55 on Friday evening before cruising past Emmanuel College, 84-61, in the NCAA quarterfinals on Saturday.
